I was lucky enough to grow up with a mum who really enjoyed baking. Every birthday I would have a different shaped cake, and I imagine that's where my love of it really comes from.
But Christmas was different. Rather than funky shapes, and being covered in sweets to create amazing features, Christmas was about simplicity, elegance, and celebrating with others. Usually late afternoon on Christmas Day, when you've reached that point where you thought you'd never need to eat again, but actually, could really go for a cuppa and a bit of cake.

I feel the need to point out that the angels cake isn't a complete image, because muggins here forgot to take a picture until we'd already fired in!
